Two weeks

Amélie is two weeks old today!  She came into the world through an emergency Cesarean Section. Despite all the jokes, nobody really expected that our baby girl was actually too big to pass through my pelvic. What started out as a promising natural birth, was finalized in the OR.

And there she was. Amélie Édy Gaustad, 3810 grams, in perfect health, maximum APGAR score, with a slightly pointy head, caused by the attempt of squeezing her through a too narrow passage. And on that pointy head, which is no longer pointy by the way, a full set of thick black fabulous hair.

Amélie was in perfectly good health. I, however, had to recover from surgery plus an almost full delivery, and so we had to stay in hospital for 5 days.

Amélie is doing great. She drinks well, sleeps well and grows well. She takes her time for her meals, dozing off into a satisfied deep and long sleep. She loves to be held, we love to hold her.

Pronunciation
There has been some confusion for some, in how to pronounce her name. It’s really quite easy. Just forget about all the names that are somewhat similar (not giving out examples) and start clean: Amélie. It’s French. To help you a bit, watch this trailer of the movie Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain for the correct pronunciation.

Her middle name Édy, is also pronounced in the French way: É as the [a] in the English word ‘baker’ and y as the [ee] in the English word ‘see’. Although, Are seems to disagree.

Origins and meaning
Amélie has several origins and meanings:  gentle and friendly, beloved, truthful, protective in battle, eager, striving and hard working.

Édy is descended from Edje, which we thought sounded a bit too boyish. Édy also comes from the Old Norse name Edda, meaning mother of mothers, and from other origins means poetic, pleasant and with clear goals.

Admire Amélie Édy in her first two weeks of life here. See any similarities to anybody?
